Hi Guys, I have not been to this forum for a while, but I was hoping someone here could help me with a question. I'd like to get my girlfriend a nice set of earrings she can wear every day. Unfortunately, her ears are really sensitive, and she can only wear 24kt gold. All the 24kt gold earrings I can find are either very plain hoops or studs, or are endowed with very expensive stones and cost thousands. She wants earring she can wear every day. I want to spend a couple hundred bucks, not a couple thousand. So what I'm looking for is a set of 24kt gold earrings with a CZ or synthetic stone, small, maybe .75 to 1ct total weight. A pig wearing a gold necklace you could say. ANYONE know where I can find something like this? I know it's a long shot, but... Thanks in advance! Eric |

I've never seen 24K earrings as it is so soft.... Can she wear 18Kt or platinum? |
|
|
Um, 18k might work. I know 14K and her ears turn nasty red and start swelling and getting infected. Not a pretty sight. Never tried platinum; thought it would be a bit expensive...? |
|
|
I think you could get some nice settings in platinum for a couple hundred ![]() That sounds like a really nasty allergic reaction she has to 14K- Maybe someone else has had that happen... |

Where could I find what you are talking about? |
|

I believe that certain Asian jewelry traditions use very high-carat gold. Maybe if there's an Indian or Thai or Chinese jeweler in your area, they could help? You also might consider getting drop earrings with wires made of 24 k gold or platinum, but having the stones set in a lower karat. Since the only part touching her ears would be 24k, she shouldn't have a reaction. |

Platinum stud earrings *without* stones can be a little hard to find. I was looking for some myself a few months ago. Try this site http://www.platinum-diamond.com/platinumearringsa.htm for some ideas. Another site is http://www.humesmckenzie.com/platinum.html I'm not sure how good their prices are, but if you found something you liked, I feel fairly sure you could have one of the DT vendors find you something similar. Would she like platinum or is she more of a yellow gold kind of woman? The nice thing about platinum is that it is virtually guaranteed to not cause her any problems. |

Chinatown or Indian Jeweler
If you have access to either, it's pretty easy to get 22K. I have a pair I bought in Singapore, and I love them! dd |

indian jewelry is pretty much all 24kt gold...where do you live? maybe there's an indian jeweler around? |
|
|
personally, i would go with the platinum. i have a lot of 24kt gold from india, and the earrings are made with pretty thick posts because 24kt gold is so soft. i would imagine that it would be pretty easy to get platinum earrings made with interlap CZs from wink. wink@winkjones.com |

here's a pair of 1ct CZ platinum studs on ebay for $90, so it's definitely doable. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...&item=985148117 I'm sure wink would be able to get you an interlap cz or signity cz pair in platinum for a reasonable price. the interlap stones are super cheap, and so are the signity stars. contact wink, he'll be able to help you out in whatever shape you're looking for. |

here's another thought
My 2 cents for Gin here since she isn't online. But the VanGraff earrings are made with platinum posts to ensure no infections. Yes these stones are more expensive, but the quality of the settings will last a lifetime. You can go to: www.Van-Graff.com www.bestdiamondsimulantso nearth.com Now I think all bases are covered. irish |

Hello my dear! Yes I use platinum posts in my post earrings and this don't cause any allergic reaction and they are very thin at 0.8mm You can use any karat gold and with the platinum posts she will not have any allergy, if you want some specific design I can sell you just the platinum posts and your jeweler can solder the platinum posts, I have lots in stock and they are much cheaper than the difference cost of the 24k gold that in a very short time will be all scratched and dented because it id very soft. |

I have just a few inputs....This is just a temp fix...BUT, you can avoid an allergy temporarily by painting a light coating of clear nail polish on the post and back of the setting back. Also, my mother had an allergy to gold, just like your girlfriend. If she's like my mother, it wasn't only the post that mattered, it was the back of the basket...anything gold that touched her skin - so be aware of that. Third...you can buy plain platinum earring settings with no stones from Rio Grande...they range in price from $36 (25pt pair) to $65 ( 1ct pair) for basket settings and from $63 (50pt pair) to $85 (1ct pair) for crown style. Cheers! |

you could probably find 22k. i've never seen 24k. 22k can usually be found by middle eastern dealers, with goods out of egypt and the surrounding regions, maybe even india. did you search the internet? i have a pair of 22k dangle earrings (from syria) purchased from a dealer in paramus, nj. |
